Upcoming Survey<\/strong>
A survey is being prepared to send to the congregation to help determine
how we proceed with worship through the winter months. Look for it in
your mail in the next week or so. Please make an effort to respond so
that your opinion can help determine how we move forward with worship
as a congregation.
Election-Season Prayer Service<\/strong>
A recorded prayer service will be available for you to access on Sunday
Afternoon. It is both my conviction and part of our baptismal promises
(live with them among God’s faithful people, care for others and the
world God made, and work for justice and peace) to pray for our leadership
and be involved in the civil affairs of our country. As you prayerfully
consider your vote and voice in our civil affairs, or even if you have
already voted, we offer you this opportunity to surround our leaders, the
election, election workers and the general welfare of our nation with
prayer and God’s abounding love. It will be available through Facebook,
email and our website.
Congregational Budget Meeting<\/strong>
Our annual fall congregational meeting to approve the budget will be
Nov 22 with a rain\/postponement date of Nov 29. The meeting will be in
person, outdoors if possible and will likely include an option to join electronically via Zoom or another platform. If necessary, we will meet in the sanctuary in smaller groups to facilitate safety and participation. You will receive shortly your copy of the 2021 Annual budget for your review. Please look over it carefully and come prepared with any questions. If you
would like to ask a question in advance or need clarification, please

Confession and Forgiveness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Blessed be the holy Trinity, \u2629 one God, in whose image we are made, who claims us and calls us beloved. Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy One,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

we confess that we are not awake for you. We are not faithful in using your gifts. We forget the least of our siblings. We do not see your beautiful image in one another. We are infected by sin that divides your beloved community. Open our hearts to your coming, open our eyes to see you in our neighbor, open our hands to serve your creation. Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Reading: Revelation 7:9-17<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The book of Revelation is written to seven churches in western Asia Minor during a time of great oppression. Today\u2019s reading is a response to the question asked in 6:17: \u201cWho is able to stand?\u201d The writer gives the faithful the assurance of God\u2019s protection and a vision of victory.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

9<\/sup>After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. 10<\/sup>They cried out in a loud voice, saying,
\u2003\u201cSalvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!\u201d
11<\/sup>And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12<\/sup>singing,

Second Reading: 1 John 3:1-3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A saint is one who has been set apart by God for God\u2019s purposes. God, out of divine love, set us apart to be the children of God. Our holy hope is that we shall see God as God really is.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1<\/sup>See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2<\/sup>Beloved, we are God\u2019s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. 3<\/sup>And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the Beatitudes, Jesus provides a unique description of those who are blessed with God\u2019s favor. His teaching is surprising and shocking to those who seek wealth, fame, and control over others.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1<\/sup>When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2<\/sup>Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
\u2003 3<\/sup>\u201cBlessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
\u2003 4<\/sup>\u201cBlessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
\u2003 5<\/sup>\u201cBlessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
\u2003 6<\/sup>\u201cBlessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
\u2003 7<\/sup>\u201cBlessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
\u2003 8<\/sup>\u201cBlessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
\u2003 9<\/sup>\u201cBlessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
\u2003 10<\/sup>\u201cBlessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness\u2019 sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
\u2003 11<\/sup>\u201cBlessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12<\/sup>Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. Lord of all the saints, we praise you for evangelists and martyrs whose sacrifices witness to your gospel across time and space. Inspire us by their courage to carry our faith to new people and places around us. Hear us, O God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lord of every place, the universe proclaims your greatness from generation to generation. Bless the work of naturalists, conservationists, and park rangers who train our attention to the wonders of the world you have made. Hear us, O God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
