Cherwein <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ANNOUNCEMENTS <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Meditation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even after Israel had experienced the vagaries of kings, the people still longed for a true king to set things right. He would have the king\u2019s title of Anointed One (Messiah); he would be the \u201cone like a human being\u201d (Son of Man) given dominion in Daniel\u2019s vision. Jesus is given these titles, even though he is nothing like an earthly king. His authority comes from the truth to which he bears witness, and those who recognize the truth voluntarily listen to him. We look forward to the day he is given dominion, knowing his victory will be the nonviolent victory of love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Confession and Forgiveness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the name of the Father, and of the \u2629 Son, and of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have mercy on us, O God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We confess that we have sinned against you<\/strong> <strong>and against our neighbor.<\/strong> <strong>We have built walls instead of tables<\/strong> <strong>and have turned away the stranger.<\/strong> <strong>We have sought glory for ourselves<\/strong> <strong>and have treasured that which does not satisfy.<\/strong> <strong>Help us to love as you love,<\/strong> <strong>to welcome those you send,<\/strong> <strong>and to treasure mercy and justice.<\/strong> <strong>Turn us from our ways to your ways,<\/strong> <strong>and free us to serve those in need. Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God, who makes all things new, forgives your sins for \u2629 Jesus\u2019 sake and remembers them no more. Lift up your heads and your hearts. Yours is the kingdom of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Opening Hymn:<\/strong> ELW 805- &#8220;Lead On, O King Eternal!&#8221; all verses.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prayer of the Day<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almighty and ever-living God, you anointed your beloved Son to be priest and sovereign forever. Grant that all the people of the earth, now divided by the power of sin, may be united by the glorious and gentle rule of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Reading: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>To the community for whom this passage was written, it seemed as though the oppression they were experiencing would never end. Daniel\u2019s message is: It shall end. The Ancient One, who is judge, will call all nations to account and will give dominion to \u201cone like a human being,\u201d the Messiah.<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2003<sup>9<\/sup>As I watched,<br>\u2003thrones were set in place,<br>\u2003\u2003and an Ancient One took his throne,<br>\u2003his clothing was white as snow,<br>\u2003\u2003and the hair of his head like pure wool;<br>\u2003his throne was fiery flames,<br>\u2003\u2003and its wheels were burning fire.<br>\u2003<sup>10<\/sup>A stream of fire issued<br>\u2003\u2003and flowed out from his presence.<br>\u2003A thousand thousands served him,<br>\u2003\u2003and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him.<br>\u2003The court sat in judgment,<br>\u2003\u2003and the books were opened.<br><sup>13<\/sup>As I watched in the night visions,<br>\u2003I saw one like a human being<br>\u2003\u2003coming with the clouds of heaven.<br>\u2003And he came to the Ancient One<br>\u2003\u2003and was presented before him.<br>\u2003<sup>14<\/sup>To him was given dominion<br>\u2003\u2003and glory and kingship,<br>\u2003that all peoples, nations, and languages<br>\u2003\u2003should serve him.<br>\u2003His dominion is an everlasting dominion<br>\u2003\u2003that shall not pass away,<br>\u2003and his kingship is one<br>\u2003\u2003that shall never be destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Second Reading: Revelation 1:4b-8<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The book of Revelation begins by celebrating the Almighty God, who spans all of time. Similarly, Jesus is celebrated as the firstborn from the dead who rules over the world\u2019s rulers. He is the one whose return we eagerly await.<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>4b<\/sup>Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, <sup>5<\/sup>and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.<br>\u2003 To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, <sup>6<\/sup>and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.<br>\u2003<sup>7<\/sup>Look! He is coming with the clouds;<br>\u2003\u2003every eye will see him,<br>\u2003even those who pierced him;<br>\u2003\u2003and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail.<br>So it is to be. Amen.<br>\u2003 <sup>8<\/sup>\u201cI am the Alpha and the Omega,\u201d says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gospel: John 18:33-37<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>In John\u2019s gospel, the story of Jesus and Pilate presents two different ways of exercising power: through force or with love.<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>33<\/sup>Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, \u201cAre you the King of the Jews?\u201d <sup>34<\/sup>Jesus answered, \u201cDo you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?\u201d <sup>35<\/sup>Pilate replied, \u201cI am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?\u201d <sup>36<\/sup>Jesus answered, \u201cMy kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.\u201d <sup>37<\/sup>Pilate asked him, \u201cSo you are a king?\u201d Jesus answered, \u201cYou say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sermon: <\/strong>Pastor Chris Lee<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hymn of the Day: <\/strong>ELW 431- &#8220;O Christ, What Can It Mean for Us?&#8221; all verses.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prayers of Intercession<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eternal God, you hold firm amid the changes of this world. Hear us now as we pray for the church, the world, and everyone in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God, you sent your Son Jesus to testify to the truth. We pray for preachers, deacons, missionaries, evangelists, and teachers who carry your forgiveness and love to the world. Fill their words and actions with compassion and kindness so that your truth will shine. God, in your mercy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>hear our prayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God, you sent your Son Jesus to liberate all of creation. We pray for all living things longing for the freedom to flourish, from ancient trees and wild grasses to endangered animals and rare insects. Give human beings compassionate hearts to care for them. God, in your mercy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>hear our prayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God, you sent your Son Jesus to lead us into the way of peace. Direct the members of international alliances in choosing a nonviolent path toward the future. Give them the humility and wisdom to make just decisions to benefit all. God, in your mercy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>hear our prayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God, you sent your Son Jesus to make us into your own people, set free to serve you. We pray for people who serve the well-being of others, especially ministries in our community especially Doris and Victor Day Foundation and Christian Care Martha&#8217;s House. Renew them in their work. God, in your mercy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>hear our prayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God, you sent your Son Jesus to rule in all times and places. We pray for the friends of our congregation who are unable to join usin our worship in person and for all who are sick and suffering especially Julie Prenatt; David Neu; Sheri Stoutt; Nan Hibbs; Britta Maddox; Rose Reasor; Everett Noah; Libby Hofsas; Noah Stoutt; Shelley Collis; Barb Martin; Deb Schafer; Richard Hotchkiss; Marijane Cook; Nancy and Bob Bosco; Charysse and Adean Heritage and Family; Randy McIntyre; Karen Bemowski; Marilyn Hubbard; Helen Schubert, Paige Wheeler; and all those we name before you aloud or in our hearts. Give them tangible signs of your steadfast love. Join their prayers with ours and unite them with us in the body of Christ. God, in your mercy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>hear our prayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God, you sent your Son Jesus to be our beginning and our ending. We give thanks for those whose lives have given us a glimpse of Jesus\u2019 reign of justice and peace, especially Eugene William Eiklor, Marilyn Allen, and Blake Wheeler. Empower us to join their witness. God, in your mercy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>hear our prayer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God our hope and strength, we entrust to you all for whom we pray.
